Large changes are being realised in our society because of the technological changes. Following are some of the examples which will show that how technology has influenced our society: (A) Influence on Family System (B) Influence on Religion (C) Influence of Urban Life (D) Influence on Rural Life

(A) Influence on Family System:

We all know that our family system, an oldest institution of the world, is being influenced by technology as illustrated from the following examples:

(i) Technical changes have created a trend for single family system, as employment is provided to an individual and not to the joint family.

(ii) Standard of living of the family is raised.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

(iii) People have become materialistic minded.

(iv) In joint family, words of head of family were taken as law and accepted with respect and there was much co-operation. But in single family outlook has changed and each unit has become selfish, words of head of family are first valued before they are accepted.

(B) Influence on Religion:

Technology has also influenced the religion and religious outlook.

Some of such effects are given hereunder:

ADVERTISEMENTS:

(i) In the agricultural economy, every good or bad event was attributed to God. When they migrate to cities and work in factories or in offices (where they are guaranteed for minimum wages), the hold or grip of religion on the people is relaxed.

(ii) Caste rigidity has considerably come down as, members of all castes are required to work together in the same factory or office and they may also be required to reside in the same colony.

(C) Influence of Urban Life:

Technology is deeply influencing the urban life, specially in creating the problems in urban society, e.g.

(i) Over-crowding in the cities has created the accommodation problems very serious. As the people who are migrated to cities do not get proper accommodation, they settle down where they get some space, and thereby creating slum problem.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

(ii) Great strains is being put up on transportation system in urban areas.

(D) Influence on Rural Life:

Technical development is also influencing rural life e.g.

(i) Joint family system is being disintegrated.

(ii) Occupational mobility becomes possible and villagers are now in a position to move from their traditional occupation of agriculture to any other occupation.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

(iii) Due to improvement in agricultural methods some of the farmers (who were already rich) have become very rich and large number of poor agriculturists is forced out of job, less number of persons are required with new techniques.
